Emergency Conditions

This information is relevant for academic year 2017/18.

If Scottish Borders Council were to activate 'Resilient Schools', due to severe weather across the region, you should be aware of the following points:-

  • Notifications to Parents will come through Groupcall. Information will also be posted on the SBC Facebook Page and broadcast on Radio Borders.
    • (Please make sure your mobile number is up to date on our systems by notifying us of any changes)
  • There will be no school transport whatsoever on these days.
  • The staff complement at school will be vastly reduced as only staff that live within 1.5  miles of the school are asked to attend.
  • Only pupils (S1-S6) who live within 1.5 miles of the school should attend school as we do not have the capacity to accept any more than this.
  • Pupils who live outwith this area should under no circumstances be brought to the school as we do not have the staffing capability to deal with any extra.
    • We ask for your support here, not bringing your child to school, even if you have the capability of getting them to school.
  • Work for those at home will consist of continuing with work that had been set prior to the severe weather. Over and above that, staff will endeavour to post up other work that can be accessed through GLOW and Edmodo. Please be aware that it is very difficult in these situations to continue the delivery of courses in a way that is comparable to a normal teaching day or consistent across the curriculum.
  • If your child is attending school, they will follow a heavily adapted curriculum tailored to the available staff that attend on these occasions. It would be useful if those attending school could bring some appropriate footwear for use in the Sports Hall. There is no requirement to bring PE kit.

Please see further notes in the article below on Emergency Transport.

Attached is a letter from Scottish Borders Council outlining the general principles to be followed in cases of emergency conditions such a bad weather.  Please familiarise yourselves with this.
